Oval Head Screws Manufacturer in India

Countersunk, with a raised dome on top. We make oval head machine screws to ASME B18.6.3, raised countersunk screws to ISO 2010 and ISO 7047, and oval head wood screws to DIN 95 and DIN 7995, slotted or cross recessed, in A2 and A4 stainless, brass and plated steel. The page gives every head dimension, explains 82° and 90° countersinks, and calculates how far the head will stand above the surface.

Overview

Raised Countersunk Screws & Oval Head Wood Screws: Manufacturer & Stockist

An oval head screw is a countersunk screw with a raised, domed top. The cone centres the screw and sits in the countersink; the dome gives a finished look and leaves room for a deeper slot or recess.

Exotic Alloy manufactures oval head screws in Mumbai, India, for hardware, furniture, boat-fitting, electrical and appliance makers. We stock across India and supply Thailand, South-East Asia, the Gulf and Europe. Heads are cold formed with the slot or cross recess, and threads are rolled.

Three families, one head shape

Inch oval head machine screws follow ASME B18.6.3 with an 82° head. Metric raised countersunk screws follow ISO 2010 (slotted, formerly DIN 964) and ISO 7047 (cross recessed, formerly DIN 966) with a 90° head. Oval head wood screws follow DIN 95 and DIN 7995. For a flush finish, see flat head and countersunk screws.

Countersinks

Countersinking for Oval Head Screws

Match the countersink to the head: 82° for inch screws, 90° for ISO metric screws. With the wrong tool the head touches only at its edge or near the shank, so it can tilt, loosen or mark the part.

ASME B18.6.3 checks the head with a gauge: when the countersink diameter at the surface is the gaging diameter G, the top of the head stands F above it. The oval head protrudes about 0.02–0.13″ more than the flat head, from No. 0 to 1/2″: that is the dome.

Oval Head Countersink & Protrusion Calculator

Enter the countersink diameter at the surface and the panel thickness. The calculator shows how far the head will stand above the surface and how deep the 82° countersink goes.

Screw & countersink

Our calculation from the ASME B18.6.3 gauge values: protrusion = F − (countersink dia. − G) ÷ (2 tan 41°). The countersink diameter resets to the maximum head diameter when you change size.

FAQ

Oval Head Screw Questions, Answered

An oval head screw, also called a raised countersunk head screw, has a countersunk head with a low dome on top. The cone sits in a countersink while the dome stays slightly above the surface. Inch machine screws are made to ASME B18.6.3, metric screws to ISO 2010 (slotted) and ISO 7047 (cross recessed), and wood screws to DIN 95 and DIN 7995.

Both have the same countersunk cone and head diameter: for ASME No. 10, up to 0.362 in. The oval head adds a raised dome, so its total height is up to 0.176 in against 0.116 in for the flat head, and its slot can be deeper (up to 0.103 in against 0.053 in). The flat head finishes flush; the oval head stands slightly proud and looks more decorative.

Inch oval head screws to ASME B18.6.3 need an 82 degree countersink. Metric raised countersunk screws to ISO 2010 and ISO 7047 need 90 degrees. With the wrong angle the head bears only on its edge or on its underside instead of on the whole cone.

ASME B18.6.3 gauges it: when the countersink diameter at the surface equals the gaging diameter G, the top of the head protrudes by F. For No. 10, G is 0.313 in and F is 0.075 to 0.102 in. A larger countersink lets the head sit lower; our calculator works out the protrusion for any countersink diameter.

From the edge of the head, where the countersunk cone meets the raised top, to the end of the screw. The countersunk part is included in the length; the raised oval is not.

Size 0 for 2 mm screws, size 1 for 2.5 and 3 mm, size 2 for 3.5 to 5 mm, size 3 for 5.5 to 7 mm and size 4 for 8 mm. The recess can be Phillips (type H) or Pozidriv (type Z); use the matching bit type as well as the matching size.

Not a flat washer, which would stop the cone seating. On soft material, trim or panels that cannot be countersunk, use a countersunk finishing (cup) washer: it gives the head a proper cone to sit in and a neat raised look.

Most often A2 (304) and A4 (316) stainless steel, brass for decorative and electrical work, and low-carbon steel with zinc, nickel or chrome plating. The screw in our photo is a slotted stainless oval head wood screw.
