Overview

DIN 582 Lifting Eye Nuts: Manufacturer & Stockist

A lifting eye nut turns a stud or bolt into a rated lifting point. Screw it fully home, hook on, and lift within the rating for the way it is loaded.

Exotic Alloy manufactures, stocks and exports DIN 582 eye nuts from Mumbai, India, for machine and motor builders, mould and tool makers, steel fabricators, riggers and fastener distributors. We supply across India and to Cameroon, West and Central Africa, the Middle East and South-East Asia.

Forged in one piece

The ring and the threaded base are drop forged together from C15E steel. The eye and the ratings are the same as those of a DIN 580 eye bolt of the same size; see eye bolts for the version that screws into a tapped hole, and hex nuts for ordinary nuts.

Eye Nut or Eye Bolt, and How to Fit It

M20 to scale: a DIN 582 eye nut screwed fully onto a stud with 16 mm of thread engaged, beside a DIN 580 eye bolt in a tapped hole with a 30 mm thread; both have the same eye M20 to scale: eye nut on a stud vs eye bolt in a tapped hole e 16 engaged DIN 582 eye nut on a stud or bolt stud thread through the full nut height l 30 thread DIN 580 eye bolt in a tapped hole same eye, same ratings EXOTIC ALLOY
Same eye, two ways to fix it. The eye nut goes on a stud or bolt; the eye bolt goes into a tapped hole.

Do

  • Screw the nut fully home so the base sits flat and fully on the contact face.
  • Engage the stud thread over the whole height of the nut thread e.
  • Use a stud or bolt at least as strong as the nut.
  • Load in the plane of the ring.

Do not

  • Pull across the ring or drag the load sideways.
  • Lift with the base not seated.
  • Exceed the rating for the actual angle of pull.
  • Use a nut that is bent, cracked or worn in the eye.

Rules from Elesa's and Carl Stahl's DIN 582 instructions. Every nut ships with operating instructions.

FAQ

Lifting Eye Nut Questions, Answered

A forged ring with an internally threaded base. Screwed fully onto a stud or bolt, it gives a hook or shackle a rated lifting point. DIN 582 covers lifting eye nuts from M6 to M100x6; the common sizes M6 to M64 are on this page.

1,200 kg as a single nut lifting vertically, 860 kg in total for a pair with sling legs up to 45 degrees, and 600 kg for a single nut pulled at 90 degrees in the plane of the eye. An M12 is rated 340, 240 and 170 kg.

An angled pull bends the ring and the thread instead of pulling straight along the axis. In DIN 582 the 45 degree pair rating is 0.71 to 0.74 of the single vertical rating, and the 90 degree rating is half of it.

A DIN 582 eye nut has the same eye and the same ratings as a DIN 580 eye bolt of the same size, but it screws onto a stud or bolt instead of into a tapped hole. At M20 the eye nut engages 16 mm of thread; the eye bolt has a 30 mm thread for a tapped hole.

Screw it fully home so the base sits flat and fully on the contact face, with the stud thread engaged over the whole nut height and the stud material at least as strong as the nut. Load it in the plane of the ring and avoid side pulls.

Steel C15E, drop forged, usually zinc plated or galvanised; stainless steel A2 and A4 on request. Elesa rates its stainless DIN 582 nuts, M6 to M24, the same as steel; we confirm the rating of stainless nuts on order.

Check the inside diameter of the eye and the ring thickness: an M20 eye is 40 mm inside with a 16 mm ring, an M12 eye 30 mm inside with a 12 mm ring. The hook or shackle pin must pass through and seat on the ring.

M6 to M64 in the 17 sizes listed on this page, from stock or made to order. Larger and in-between sizes, such as M72x6 to M100x6 or M33 and M39, are made to order.
