Hex Nuts Manufacturer in India

The most used nut there is: six flats, a tapped hole, chamfered on both faces. We make hex nuts to ISO 4032, DIN 934 and ASME B18.2.2, in classes 5 to 12, stainless A2-70 and A4-70, brass and nickel alloys. Below: the nut drawn to scale, metric and inch dimension tables, where ISO and DIN differ, nut heights, classes and proof loads, and a finder.

Overview

ISO 4032 / DIN 934 / ASME Hex Nuts: Manufacturer & Distributor

A hex nut carries the bolt load through its thread and its bearing face. Its height decides whether the bolt breaks before the thread strips, which is how the ISO system is designed; its width across flats decides the spanner.

Exotic Alloy manufactures and distributes hex nuts from Mumbai, India, for machine builders, structural and plant contractors, OEMs and fastener distributors. We supply across India and export to Indonesia, South-East Asia, the Gulf and Africa.

Three standards, one shape

ISO 4032 is the current metric standard for regular (style 1) nuts; DIN 934 is its withdrawn German predecessor, still on many drawings; ASME B18.2.2 covers inch hex nuts. For thicker nuts see heavy hex nuts, for thin ones jam nuts, and for bolts to match, hex bolts.

Nut height

Why Nut Height Matters: Style 1, Style 2 & DIN 934

Minimum nut height divided by thread diameter for M5 to M39: ISO 4033 style 2 nuts run 0.89 to 0.98 D, ISO 4032 style 1 nuts 0.80 to 0.88 D and never below the 0.8 D that ISO 898-2 sets for style 1, while the withdrawn DIN 934 nuts are 0.74 to 0.80 D, below 0.8 D at every size except M12 Minimum nut height as a share of the thread diameter, m min / D 0.7 D 0.8 D 0.9 D 1.0 D dashed line: 0.8 D, the style 1 minimum of ISO 898-2 M5 M8 M12 M16 M20 M24 M30 M36 M39 ISO 4033 style 2 M5: m min 4.8 mm = 0.96 D ISO 4033 style 2 M6: m min 5.4 mm = 0.90 D ISO 4033 style 2 M7: m min 6.84 mm = 0.98 D ISO 4033 style 2 M8: m min 7.14 mm = 0.89 D ISO 4033 style 2 M10: m min 8.94 mm = 0.89 D ISO 4033 style 2 M12: m min 11.57 mm = 0.96 D ISO 4033 style 2 M14: m min 13.4 mm = 0.96 D ISO 4033 style 2 M16: m min 15.7 mm = 0.98 D ISO 4033 style 2 M18: m min 16.9 mm = 0.94 D ISO 4033 style 2 M20: m min 19 mm = 0.95 D ISO 4033 style 2 M22: m min 20.5 mm = 0.93 D ISO 4033 style 2 M24: m min 22.6 mm = 0.94 D ISO 4033 style 2 M27: m min 25.4 mm = 0.94 D ISO 4033 style 2 M30: m min 27.3 mm = 0.91 D ISO 4033 style 2 M33: m min 30.9 mm = 0.94 D ISO 4033 style 2 M36: m min 33.1 mm = 0.92 D ISO 4033 style 2 M39: m min 35.9 mm = 0.92 D ISO 4033 style 2 ISO 4032 style 1 M5: m min 4.4 mm = 0.88 D ISO 4032 style 1 M6: m min 4.9 mm = 0.82 D ISO 4032 style 1 M7: m min 6.14 mm = 0.88 D ISO 4032 style 1 M8: m min 6.44 mm = 0.81 D ISO 4032 style 1 M10: m min 8.04 mm = 0.80 D ISO 4032 style 1 M12: m min 10.37 mm = 0.86 D ISO 4032 style 1 M14: m min 12.1 mm = 0.86 D ISO 4032 style 1 M16: m min 14.1 mm = 0.88 D ISO 4032 style 1 M18: m min 15.1 mm = 0.84 D ISO 4032 style 1 M20: m min 16.9 mm = 0.84 D ISO 4032 style 1 M22: m min 18.1 mm = 0.82 D ISO 4032 style 1 M24: m min 20.2 mm = 0.84 D ISO 4032 style 1 M27: m min 22.5 mm = 0.83 D ISO 4032 style 1 M30: m min 24.3 mm = 0.81 D ISO 4032 style 1 M33: m min 27.4 mm = 0.83 D ISO 4032 style 1 M36: m min 29.4 mm = 0.82 D ISO 4032 style 1 M39: m min 31.8 mm = 0.82 D ISO 4032 style 1 DIN 934 M5: m min 3.7 mm = 0.74 D DIN 934 M6: m min 4.7 mm = 0.78 D DIN 934 M7: m min 5.2 mm = 0.74 D DIN 934 M8: m min 6.14 mm = 0.77 D DIN 934 M10: m min 7.64 mm = 0.76 D DIN 934 M12: m min 9.64 mm = 0.80 D DIN 934 M14: m min 10.3 mm = 0.74 D DIN 934 M16: m min 12.3 mm = 0.77 D DIN 934 M18: m min 14.3 mm = 0.79 D DIN 934 M20: m min 14.9 mm = 0.74 D DIN 934 M22: m min 16.9 mm = 0.77 D DIN 934 M24: m min 17.7 mm = 0.74 D DIN 934 M27: m min 20.7 mm = 0.77 D DIN 934 M30: m min 22.7 mm = 0.76 D DIN 934 M33: m min 24.7 mm = 0.75 D DIN 934 M36: m min 27.4 mm = 0.76 D DIN 934 M39: m min 29.4 mm = 0.75 D DIN 934 ISO 4033 style 2 ISO 4032 style 1 DIN 934 EXOTIC ALLOY

Marking

  • Class number (5, 6, 8, 10, 12) and the maker's mark on every class-rated nut.
  • Indented on the face or side, or embossed on the chamfer, never standing proud of the bearing face.
  • Small nuts may use the clock-face system; the twelve o'clock position carries the maker's mark or a dot.
  • Stainless nuts carry A2-70 or A4-70.

FAQ

Hex Nut Questions, Answered

DIN 934 has been withdrawn and replaced by ISO 4032. The spanner sizes differ at M10 (16 mm ISO, 17 mm DIN), M12 (18 and 19), M14 (21 and 22) and M22 (34 and 32), and ISO 4032 nuts are taller at every size: an M12 nut is 10.8 mm high to ISO 4032 and 10 mm to DIN 934.

18 mm for an ISO 4032 nut and 19 mm for a DIN 934 nut. An M10 nut takes 16 mm (ISO) or 17 mm (DIN), an M16 nut 24 mm and an M20 nut 30 mm in both standards.

A regular ISO 4032 (style 1) nut is at least 0.8 times the thread diameter high: an M12 nut 10.37 to 10.8 mm, an M20 nut 16.9 to 18 mm. High nuts to ISO 4033 (style 2) are taller, for example 11.57 to 12 mm at M12.

A class 8 nut, or a higher class. ISO 898-2 pairs nut class 5 with bolts up to 5.8, 6 with 6.8, 8 with 8.8, 10 with 10.9 and 12 with 12.9. Regular class 12 nuts are made only up to M16.

74.2 kN for a regular nut with coarse thread, in ISO 898-2:2012 Table 4. The same size takes 88.5 kN in class 10 and 100.3 kN in class 12.

Yes. ISO 4032:2023 keeps M1.6 to M4 and M42 to M64 in an informative annex as historical sizes. Their height is below 0.8 times the diameter, so the property classes of ISO 898-2 and ISO 3506-2 do not apply and the mechanical properties are agreed with the buyer.

To ASME B18.2.2 a 1/2-13 hex nut is 0.736 to 0.750 in across flats, 0.840 to 0.866 in across corners and 0.427 to 0.448 in thick. A 1 in hex nut is 1.450 to 1.500 in across flats and 0.831 to 0.887 in thick.

With the property class number and the maker's mark, indented on the face or side or embossed on the chamfer. Small nuts can use the clock-face system instead, with the twelve o'clock position marked by the maker's mark or a dot.

Not quite. Galvanized nuts are tapped oversize (for example 6AZ or 6AX instead of 6H) to fit over the coated bolt, and ISO 898-2 notes that this lowers their thread stripping strength.
