Alloy 925 Fasteners
Age-Hardenable Ni-Fe-Cr-Mo-Cu Alloy – High Strength Sour Service

Incoloy 925 Fasteners

Buy Incoloy Alloy 925 (UNS N09925 / ASTM B805) bolts, stud bolts, heavy hex nuts, socket cap screws, and custom CNC fasteners from Exotic Alloy. Incoloy 925 takes the corrosion-resistant chemistry of alloy 825 and adds titanium and aluminium so the alloy can be precipitation hardened, delivering roughly double the yield strength of alloy 825 while retaining its resistance to sour environments and chloride stress-corrosion cracking.

Exotic Alloy manufactures Incoloy 925 fasteners conforming to ASTM B805, API 6ACRA and NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156-3 in metric M6–M100 and imperial ¼"–4" sizes, supplied solution annealed and aged with full EN 10204 3.1 material test certificates for downhole and surface oil and gas completion hardware, valves, hangers and high-strength piping systems.

Key Specifications: ASTM B805 (Bar & Forgings) / ASTM B983 / API 6ACRA / NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156-3

Machinability: Incoloy 925 machines most readily in the solution-annealed condition before ageing. Use rigid setups, sharp positive-rake carbide tooling at 25–45 SFM, heavy positive feeds and continuous flood coolant. Rough machine and thread roll before ageing wherever possible, then finish machine after age hardening with light sharp cuts, since the aged alloy approaches 35 HRC.

Welding: Incoloy 925 is welded by GTAW and GMAW using INCONEL Filler Metal 625 or matching 925 filler. Welding should be performed on solution-annealed material, followed by a full solution treatment and re-age to restore properties and guarantee NACE compliance in the heat-affected zone. Welding in the aged condition is not recommended.

Forging: Hot forge between 1040–1150°C (1900–2100°F), finishing above 950°C (1740°F). Controlled reduction and finishing temperature govern the grain size, which in turn determines the strength and toughness achievable after ageing.

Heat Treatment: Solution anneal at 1010°C (1850°F), then age at 730°C (1350°F) for eight hours, furnace cool at 56°C per hour to 620°C (1150°F), hold eight hours and air cool. This precipitates gamma prime to develop the strength. For NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156-3 sour service the finished hardness must not exceed the limit stated for the grade, typically 38 HRC for alloy 925.

Incoloy 925 retains essentially the corrosion resistance of alloy 825 while roughly doubling its yield strength. The nickel content gives resistance to chloride-induced stress-corrosion cracking, molybdenum and copper handle reducing acids and localised attack, and chromium provides oxidising resistance. The alloy is qualified under NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156-3 for sour service containing hydrogen sulfide and chlorides, making it a standard choice for downhole completion hardware where both strength and sour resistance are required. It also resists pitting and crevice corrosion in seawater and offers good general resistance in sulfuric and phosphoric acids.

Key Characteristics

  • Age hardenable — roughly double the yield strength of alloy 825.
  • Retains the corrosion resistance of the alloy 825 base chemistry.
  • NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156-3 qualified for sour hydrocarbon service.
  • Excellent resistance to chloride-induced stress-corrosion cracking.
  • Good resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in seawater and brines.

Typical Applications

  • Downhole completions: hangers, landing nipples, packers and tool joints.
  • Surface wellhead equipment: valve stems, bonnet and flange bolting.
  • Oil and gas: high-strength sour service piping system fasteners.
  • Marine engineering: pump and propulsion shafting fastener assemblies.
  • Chemical processing: high-strength corrosion-resistant bolting.
