AISI 904L Characteristics

  • Exceptional resistance to sulfuric, phosphoric, and organic acids across broad temperatures.
  • High resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in warm chloride media (PREN ≥ 36).
  • High nickel content (25%) imparts excellent resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking.
  • Completely austenitic microstructure with outstanding ductility and toughness down to -196°C.
  • Excellent weldability and cold forming capability without post-weld sensitization.

Applications

  • Sulfuric, phosphoric, and acetic acid manufacturing equipment and piping.
  • Flue-gas desulfurization (FGD) scrubbers and gas ducting bolting.
  • Seawater cooling systems, offshore oil & gas platforms, and marine fasteners.
  • Pulp and paper chlorination and bleaching plant components.
  • Pharmaceutical and fine chemical processing autoclaves and reactors.
