Hastelloy is a family of nickel-base corrosion-resistant alloys built on two distinct metallurgical systems — the nickel-molybdenum "B" series for hot reducing acids, and the nickel-chromium-molybdenum "C", "G" and "X" series for combined oxidising and reducing service. With molybdenum contents from 4% to 32% and chromium up to 34%, these alloys resist hydrochloric and sulfuric acid, wet chlorine, hypochlorite, wet-process phosphoric acid, and chloride-induced pitting, crevice corrosion and stress-corrosion cracking far beyond the capability of stainless or duplex steels. Exotic Alloy manufactures the full Hastelloy range of bolts, stud bolts, heavy hex nuts and custom CNC fasteners with full traceability to ASTM, ASME, AMS and NACE MR0175 specifications for chemical processing, flue gas desulphurisation, pharmaceutical, sour gas and gas turbine applications.

Hastelloy alloys are among the most demanding materials to machine — they work-harden rapidly, have low thermal conductivity that concentrates heat at the cutting edge, and are highly abrasive due to their molybdenum and tungsten content. Exotic Alloy runs dedicated rigid CNC turning centres with positive-rake carbide and ceramic tooling, low surface speeds and heavy uninterrupted feeds to cut beneath the work-hardened layer. All threading is performed by rolling wherever section size permits, producing a cold-worked, grain-flow-continuous thread with superior fatigue and corrosion performance compared to cut threads.
